The Wild Habitat

Years of hands-on gardening have shaped the garden into a lively, climate-wise retreat. This Certified Wildlife Habitat surrounds this expanded, though still classic Norhill bungalow. Designed without a landscape designer, it has an abundance of Texas natives, pollinator-friendly planting, low-water choices and a welcoming habitat for birds and wildlife. Fountain grasses, salvias and cornflowers mingle with cypress, ginkgo and a Japanese red maple, while a water feature, pathways, gathering spaces, composting and bee-and-butterfly habitat make the garden feel active from every angle. After losing three pecan trees on the west side, the owners replanted with a more diverse mix, turning a challenge into a stronger ecosystem. Be sure to take in the color, sounds, scent and feel of this year-round garden.
